As Professional Organizers, we see a lot of kitchens. When we are brought in to organize a kitchen, we focus on improving the functionality and organization, and, as you can imagine, we often have strong feelings (positive and negative) about various cabinet or design choices.
We also see up close and in person all the other design trends with cabinet color, tile, fixtures, counters, door profile, appliances, and more.
Lately, we’ve seen a lot of color in kitchens: blues and greens rank high these days. However, if you want something that will truly stand the test of time, you can never go wrong with a white kitchen.
Here’s why they are timeless and my absolute favorite:
Classic and Versatile: White is a neutral color that can easily adapt to various design styles and trends. It provides a clean and fresh look, creating a timeless appeal that doesn’t go out of fashion. Choosing a simple cabinet door profile will also extend the life of your kitchen by not leaning too heavily toward a current trend.
Bright and Airy: White kitchens have a way of making a space feel more open, bright, and spacious. The color reflects light, giving a sense of cleanliness and openness, which can be particularly appealing in smaller or darker kitchens. Ideal if you are selling your home. Paint color or wallpaper (both easily changed) can add personality and also pop against the white cabinets.
Enduring Aesthetic: White kitchens have been popular for decades. They evoke a sense of simplicity, elegance, and sophistication that can complement a wide range of home styles. The specific color white of your cabinets can vary based on the style and feel of your home.
Easy to Coordinate: White serves as a blank canvas, making it easy to pair with different materials, textures, and accent colors. It allows for flexibility in personalizing the kitchen through accessories, furniture, or changing trends, without requiring a complete overhaul. Cabinet hardware is an easy and inexpensive update against a white backdrop making an older kitchen look new to potential buyers.
Longevity: A white kitchen is less likely to feel dated compared to bold or trendy color choices. By opting for a neutral palette, you create a foundation that can easily adapt to evolving design preferences over the years. And, they look fresh in online photos when selling your home.
Buying or Selling: White kitchens are neutral, appear larger, brighter, cleaner and appeal to a broader market. Replacing or painting dark cabinets is expensive. As noted above, other features of a kitchen can be more easily personalized providing buyers with the sense they can make a white kitchen their own.
Ultimately, the key is to create a kitchen that reflects your personal style and meets your needs for years to come. Design trends come and go but white will always be in style.
